World Press Freedom Day (WPFD) observed annually marks the anniversary of the Windhoek Declaration. It provides a crucial platform for media practitioners to celebrate the core principles of press freedom, assess the global state of media independence, advocate for the protection of journalists and honour those who have lost their lives in the pursuit of truth.
In keeping with this annual tradition, the Media Council of Kenya (MCK) in collaboration with its partners, will host a three-day media summit from 14th to 16th May 2025. The summit will conclude with the prestigious Annual Journalism Excellence Awards (AJEA 2025) on Friday, 16th May.
This year’s conference will be held under the theme: “Public Interest in the Era of Technology: Media Accountability and National Values.” The event will convene key stakeholders from government, the private sector, media, civil society, academia, and the public to exchange insights, share data, reflect on emerging challenges to press freedom, and craft actionable strategies to strengthen the media landscape.
